About Streetwork
Streetwork runs on Monday to Friday afternoons and covers the whole of
St. George.
The Streetwork program began in 2002 and was created because many young people in the St. George area were missing out on the services that YouthZone and the community provides. Streetworkers are an access point for young people to find out about services, activities, and as well as get advice.
What can I expect when a Streetworker approaches me?
The Streetwork Program and YouthZone staff, who you may run into are qualified and experienced youth workers. Streetwork is there on the street to help out when we are needed or to let you know about activities that are happening.
The Streetworker has contacts and knowledge of many different services and organisations that are used by young people and are always happy to advocate on your behalf. We often continue supporting young people on an on-going basis through the Youth Centre.
Another great thing is that we have information about up and coming youth-related events and projects in which you might be interested, watching or participating in.
One last thing – We treat everything you say to us with full confidentiality. Even from your friends unless you wish us to do otherwise. We will always ask you if it is ok to go ahead with something that involves you. We will also explain this to you in depth when it is needed.
