DROP-IN
Drop-In is FREE and open to all young people aged from 12 years.   All activities are supervised by qualified, experienced youth workers.

The new facility was officially opened on 16 March, 2005 at 18 Treacy Street, Hurstville.

  • Wednesdays, 2.30-6:30pm
  • Thursdays and Fridays, 2.30-7.00pm

Drop-In Youth Cafe

The drop-in centre has loads of hot food and drinks at low as we can go prices.

  • Chips, hash browns, fizzy drinks and milkshakes ranging from
    $1 to $3
  • Cooking happens regularly and is a FREE healthy hot meal to anyone in drop-in.
  • Also if you want a snack and short of cash you can always get FREE toasted cheese sandwiches.
  • FREE BBQ's are held every Thursday - Sausages, Salad and Chips

WHAT ELSE HAPPENS AT DROP-IN ...

Girls Space @ Drop-in
When:    Mondays, 23rd August to 20th September
Time:      2.30pm to 6.30pm
Where:   YouthZone's Drop-in Centre - 18 Treacy St, Hurstville
Cost:       FREE

Five week course for young girls only, 12 - 19 years

Program includes activities such as jewellery and bead-making, cooking, ceramic and glass painting, air brush tatoos, canvas art.  Guest speakers and Hip Hop, Zumba and Capoeira classes.  Health and self image talks.  (Mothers, female guardians and children welcome).  Flexible attendance for all activities.

Facilitated by female youth workers.

Health for Life Program
Cooking workshops occur fortnightly.  Help the youth workers cook a healthy meal.  Learn skills in food preparation, cooking, and serving.  Basic skills learned in food hygiene and OH&S.  Great opportunity to gain skills and add to your resume.  Great reference obtained to help you find employment in the food industry.  All meals are free to young people.


COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Study Start
FREE Program - This program is developed for Years 9 or 10 students and involves covering topics such as learning styles, effective study practices, classroom interaction and information of what’s available for students in the community regarding study and education resources. Teachers who are interested in implementing this program to their students or for further information, please contact David on 9580 8008.

Jumpstart
Jumpstart is designed to target students in year 10, both male and female, who are at risk of dropping out of school before or after receiving their Year 10 School Certificate.  The students are selected under the following categories: prior suspensions, behaviour issues in class, difficulty with academic achievement, intending to leave school at the end of year 10 and high absentee rate.  The program is run in partnership with Blakehurst High School, St. George TAFE and the READY project.

Assisting Young People Achieve
If you're trying to start some type of activity or event or you feel strongly about something in the community that you would like to do something about, come and have a chat to us and we should be able to facilitate it for you.  We have resources and contacts that can greatly improve the outcome of your initiative.

School Workshops
The Streetwork team also runs workshops in local schools for various youth related topics. If there is something you feel is a topic relating to young people that isn’t being covered in curriculum please contact us by phone or e-mail, if you prefer, and we will try to develop a program covering that topic and will offer it to the school.


SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Pole Depot Community Centre – YouthZone organizes School Holiday Programs for girls and boys 11-15yrs.

Daily excursions such as IMAX, Aqua Golf, Ice-skating, Laser Siege and Bowling along with activities in YouthZone’s Drop In centre.

Supervised by professional youth workers.

Cost is $16 per day for non recipients of child care benefits.

CCB Recipients will be charged up to $16 per day depending on their subsidy.

$5 admin fee per child.

Bookings essential as places are limited.

YouthZone's After School Youth Service offers young people over 12 years of age FREE assistance with essay and report writing, maths, science, research and general HSC studies. Homework Help is facilitated by experienced tutors.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We're looking for committed and enthusiastic volunteers to assist young people
12-18 years with their high school and TAFE studies during after school hours.  Volunteers must be 21+ years of age.
