DROP-IN
Drop-In is FREE and open to all young people aged from 12 years.   All activities are supervised by qualified, experienced youth workers.

The new facility was officially opened on 16 March, 2005 at 18 Treacy Street, Hurstville.

Drop-In hours

  • Wednesdays, 2.30-6:30pm
  • Thursdays and Fridays, 2.30-8:30pm
  • Every second Sunday, 2:30-5:30pm.

What you can do at Drop-In

  • Win the next game on the FREE pool tables
  • Pucker along on the FREE Air Hockey
  • FREE fooz ball table
  • Play singles or doubles on the FREE Table Tennis
  • Play Playstation 2 - yes, you guessed it - for FREE!

  • and LOTS OF FUN!

WHAT ELSE HAPPENS AT DROP-IN ...

Disc Jockey courses
Once you have completed the DJ course, you are free to use our Mixing Table during Drop-in hours (with the presence of a youth worker – we like to listen, too!)

Cooking courses
This program runs regularly to promote general healthy living and home skills. Also, the best part is that once you have cooked it, you can eat it!

Drop-In Cafe - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
An opportunity exists for enthusiastic and committed volunteers over the age of 21 with relevant experience and/or knowledge in food preparation and handling, and the ability and interest in working with young people from diverse backgrounds, to run the café at Drop-In during after school hours.

Some duties include:

  • facilitating the preparation and running of the café;
  • building a positive rapport with young people at Drop-In;
  • encouraging young people to participate in the café program.

School Holiday Programs

Dates: Monday 12th January to Friday 23rd January 2009
Held at: YouthZone, 143 Forest Road, Hurstville.
Cost: $30 per day.

YouthZone is running a school holiday program for males and females aged 11-15 years.   Activities include rock climbing, ice skating, bowling, bike riding and movies, excursions to Luna Park and the Acquatic Centre. Professional Youth Workers provide quality care at a minimal cost per day, and the program also qualifies for the Child Care Benefit (CCB) from Centrelink's Family Assistance Office (phone 13 61 50).  Contact: YouthZone (02) 9580 8008.

Jumpstart

Jumpstart is designed to target students in year 10, both male and female, who are at risk of dropping out of school before or after receiving their Year 10 School Certificate.  The students are selected under the following categories: prior suspensions, behaviour issues in class, difficulty with academic achievement, intending to leave school at the end of year 10 and high absentee rate.  The program is run in partnership with Blakehurst High School, St. George TAFE and the READY project.

YouthZone's After School Youth Service offers young people over 12 years of age FREE assistance with essay and report writing, maths, science, research and general HSC studies. Homework Help is facilitated by experienced tutors.

Community Mentoring

As part of YouthZone's outreach program, we have formed a partnership to work with St. George CSC to mentor some of our at risk young people from the St. George region.  This program has been running since late last year and is proving very successful.


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We're looking for committed and enthusiastic volunteers to assist young people
12-18 years with their high school and TAFE studies during after school hours.  Volunteers must be 21+ years of age.
