What is Work for the Dole?
Work for the Dole is an Australian Government employment program that provides work experience for unemployed people.
Work for the Dole provides:
- structured activities to improve participants' employment prospects and
vocational skills, and encourage more active and effective participation in the
workplace;
- activities that involve local communities, and provide value for money to the Australian Government;
- work experience to enhance participants' ability to work as part of a team, take directions from a supervisor, work independently, communicate effectively, and be motivated and dependable, and
- fleixble work experience opportunities for mutual obligation and voluntary participants with barriers to employment, to help them re-engage with their community and workplace.
Work for the Dole gives you the chance to gain work experience while doing something worthwhile for your community. It's also an approved activity for mutual obligation purposes, so you can meet your mutual obligation by doing a Work for the Dole placement at the same time as earning benefits like Training Credits.
If you are 18 or over and on Newstart, Youth Allowance, Disability Support Pension or Parenting Payment, you can volunteer for Work for the Dole.
If it is your first year on a payment from Centrelink, you can volunteer after you finish Intensive Support job search training with you Job Network member.
If you have been unemployed for some time, you can volunteer for Work for the Dole when you are not doing another activity.
