  • to provide information on specific disabilities/illnesses and services to assist carers and the people they care for;
  • in all activities, to be sensitive to cultural, language and family issues in providing care.

Our mission:
To support carers by reducing isolation and the stresses that many carers experience.

Respite Care
Pole Depot Respite Project - St. George / Sutherland Shire
(Funded by the Department of Health & Ageing, National Carers Respite Program)

Pole Depot Respite Service provides emergency and short term respite for Carers, including young carers.  Respite care is brokered through agencies, which provides us with a broad pool of trained staff with a range of skills and experiences, enabling flexible options for our clients.  Carers of a frail aged person, a person with dementia or a younger person (under 65) with any disability and people with terminal illness in need of palliative care are eligible for respite.

Respite is generally offered in-home on a one-to-one basis, but can involve a care staff member taking a client out for a drive or other outing.  Some meal assistance, personal care or other assistance may be provided if the task is one that would normally be undertaken by the Carer during the timeframe of the respite period.

The needs of the Carer are considered and each episode of respite is individually designed by the Carer and a St. George Carers' Support Service staff member.

Carers Outings
Provide an opportunity for Carers of persons with a disability, dementia, frail age or medical condition to socialise with other Carers. Outings are held on the FIRST Tuesday of each month to a range of venues. For information, phone the Carers Support Team on (02) 9580 0688.
