Pole Depot Community Centre is a non-profit registered charity situated in the heart of the St. George area and aims to meet the needs of our local community. Many of our vital early intervention programs would not be possible without direct financial assistance from our community and the support of volunteers.
Our Mission: Pole Depot creates a healthy and resilient local community by providing help in people’s life journey and vital support in times of need.
Programs
Our programs are aimed at early intervention and the building of resilience in the members of our community. Our focus on support for Carers of people with dementia, disability, illness and frailty, our Day Care programs for the aged and disabled, our handyman service for disadvantaged people and our early intervention youth programs are aimed at providing vital support in times of need. Our Out of School Hours Care, parenting playgroup, leisure and fitness programs, English classes, Men’s Group, Community Café, Youth Drop-in Centre and events provide help in people’s life journey. This link will give a detailed explanation of all services provided by the Centre to members of the St George community.
Background
The name Pole Depot results from the centre’s original use - a storage area for electricity poles.
Pole Depot Community Centre has operated since 1975, when a grant from the Federal Government enabled Hurstville Council to purchase the building and surrounding reserve for use as a community project. In May 1978, the first Neighbourhood Community Worker was appointed through a grant from Department of Youth & Community Services and, since then, our services have been expanded to meet the needs of the local community.
Who runs Pole Depot
Pole Depot Community Centre is run by an independent Board made up of local residents and clients, who are elected annually.
Pole Depot’s Annual General Meeting was held on 8th November, 2011.
